How many batteries to support an 8kw inverter.
So with no solar is the BMS now restructuring individual max discharge current to 42.5a? (My two batteries are limited by the BMS to 85a. So to get 8kw from the inverter would require 42.5.* 4 * 50 = 8500w. So would need 4 5.32kw batteries? Is the assumption correct. Thanks.

The maximum current for a 8kW inverter is 190A, so if you want to get 8kW from the inverter you would need a minumum of 4 * 5kWh batteries (@50A each). This would at full load give you about 2.5 hours of power.
