Sizing PV Surge Protector

I have a 5.5kw Inverter with 6 x JA Solar 545 Panels in series with

Open Circuit Voltage(Voc) [V] = 49.75, Total Open Circuit Voltage(Voc) [V] = 298.5

Maximum Power Voltage(Vmp)[V] = 41.80, Total Maximum Power Voltage(Vmp)[V] = 250

I have installed a 275V Surge Protector, by sizing for Voc and max inverter voltage. Should I have sized for Vmp instead? What voltage surge protector is suitable?

Assumed that it should would never go above the the Maximum Power Voltage, but it does around midday and I think it is being cut by the Surge Protector.

To protect PV is normal to protect against lightening strikes or indirect lightening strikes. SPD's are normally using a voltage range between 1000V and 1500V well above the total Voc of you panels and provide a voltage protection level of somewhere between 3kV and 5kV, so a 275V SPD is way to small for the solar PV. A 275V SPD isnormally the size you would use on the 240V AC side.
