Behind the Install: ST Electrical on the Sunsynk Elite — Sunsynk news article

Every installation comes with its own set of unique requirements. Available space, energy demand, storage capacity, and the practicalities of the property can all influence how a system needs to be designed. For Merseyside based Sunsynk installer ST Electrical, a recent residential project called for a solution that could provide the battery capacity the customer needed while working within the space available. The result was a parallel Sunsynk Elite setup, with two 5.12kWh batteries providing a total of 10.24kWh of battery storage in a neat, compact installation. ST Electrical already had experience installing Sunsynk, but this project offered something a little different and an opportunity to put the flexibility of the Elite to use. We caught up with director Scott to find out more about the project, his experience installing the Elite and how the finished system has performed for the customer.

Scott, could you briefly introduce ST Electrical and what you specialise in?

ST Electrical is an electrical contracting business specialising in solar PV, battery storage, renewables and general electrical work. We’re a hands-on business, and I take a lot of pride in doing the job properly, from the initial installation right through to commissioning. We’re always looking at new technology and ways of giving customers better energy solutions, so working with systems like Sunsynk is something we really enjoy.

Have you installed Sunsynk before?

Yes, we’ve installed a number of Sunsynk systems, so we were already familiar with the equipment and how the systems work. We’ve always found Sunsynk equipment good to work with. From an installer’s point of view, having equipment that is well designed and gives you plenty of flexibility makes a big difference on site.

Can you tell us a little about the project and the customer’s requirements?

This was an interesting project. The customer needed a decent amount of battery storage and wanted a system that could handle their energy requirements, all while giving them the flexibility to make the most of their solar power. It was decided that a parallel Elite setup was the right solution. It gave the extra capacity that was needed while keeping the installation neat and compact. This was also an exciting project because it was the first installation of this particular Sunsynk Elite configuration in the UK, so there was a real sense of achievement when we got it commissioned and working properly.

What equipment did you install?

We installed the Sunsynk Elite system with two 5.12kWh batteries, configured as a parallel system. It gave the customer a total of 10.24kWh of battery storage, providing plenty of battery storage for their usage.

How easy was the Elite to install and commission?

We found it pretty straight forward. As an installer, you want equipment that makes sense when you’re standing in front of it on site. The Elite is well laid out and once you’ve got your head around the configuration, the installation and commissioning process was quite smooth. The parallel capability of the Elite really helps. Rather than trying to make one unit do everything, we could build the system around what the customer needed.

Were there any challenges or requirements on the project that Sunsynk helped you overcome?

The main challenge was the space/location readily available that the customer had to progress the installation. Whilst ensuring it looked good and the system was practical.

There’s always a bit more involved when you’re working with a parallel system, but Sunsynk gave us the flexibility we needed, and we were able to get everything set up and commissioned without any major issues. This meant the customer could have the system in a specific area they had requested where another system may not have fit. This flexibility will offer other customers this option for the future where space may be a complicating factor. From an installer’s point of view, that flexibility is really useful. Every job is slightly different and having equipment that allows you to adapt makes life a lot easier.

How has the system performed for the customer, and what has their feedback been?

The system has performed really well, and the customer has been very happy with it. They were happy with the neatness and how compact the system was and with the overall system and finish.

For us, the best part is seeing the system working as it should once you’ve finished the installation. You spend the time installing it, testing it and commissioning it, so it’s always satisfying when you hand it over and the customer is happy. The customer has been pleased with the performance and the additional battery storage, and from our side we’re really happy with how the Elite system has performed. Overall, it was a great project for ST Electrical and a really interesting installation. It’s exactly the sort of project we enjoy, something a little different that allows us to push our knowledge and experience further.

Every site brings something different, and this one gave ST Electrical the chance to find a solution that worked for their customer and the space available. Thanks to Scott for giving us a look behind the install.
