Sunsynk Case Study: A Multi-Site Solar Deployment by EBS Solar & Electrical

Across many South African townships, the impact of ongoing grid instability has become a daily challenge. For religious institutions that serve as both places of worship and vital community hubs, unreliable power can disrupt services, gatherings and educational activities. To address this, one religious organisation launched a multi-site solar power project, aiming to secure dependable backup energy for several of its chapels.

To deliver this vision, they partnered with EBS Solar and Electrical, a trusted Gauteng-based renewable energy provider and Sunsynk Approved Installer with more than four years of experience specialising in Sunsynk hybrid inverter systems. EBS Solar and Electrical designed and installed custom solar solutions across multiple chapel sites situated throughout township communities in South Africa. Each site needed a system powerful enough to support essential loads through prolonged outages while maximising solar generation wherever possible.

About the Install

At the heart of every installation were Sunsynk hybrid inverters, selected for their reliability, intelligent controls and quick commissioning, an important advantage in a project spanning several locations. Larger chapels required robust capacity, achieved through the installation of dual 12kW Sunsynk three-phase inverters in parallel, providing stable and efficient 24kW output. Smaller chapels received tailored designs using either 10kW Sunsynk single-phase inverters or 8kW Sunsynk Lynks inverters, ensuring that each site benefitted from a correctly sized, high-performance solution. This customised approach allowed the systems to operate efficiently while maintaining Sunsynk’s engineering consistency across all locations.

Sites in Dobsonville and Pimville integrated Sunsynk X Batteries, chosen for their seamless compatibility with Sunsynk inverters and excellent efficiency. With storage capacities ranging from 10kWh to 30kWh, these systems now keep chapels fully functional through extended periods of load shedding, safeguarding everything from lighting and sound systems to the study spaces used by students.

A key advantage noted by EBS Solar and Electrical was the ability to centrally monitor and manage all installations through Sunsynk Connect, Sunsynk’s remote monitoring and control app. The system allows both the installer and the client to troubleshoot, optimise and track performance across multiple sites, significantly reducing downtime and simplifying long-term system maintenance. Combined with strong warranty support and after-sales service, the Sunsynk ecosystem provided the ideal foundation for a project requiring consistency, reliability and scale.

Sunsynk Technology Featured Across the Project

To meet varying load profiles and energy demands across the chapels, EBS Solar and Electrical incorporated a selection of Sunsynk’s most trusted technologies:

Hybrid Inverters Used:
  • 12kW Sunsynk Three-Phase Hybrid Inverters (including parallel 24kW configurations)

  • 10kW Sunsynk Single-Phase Hybrid Inverters

  • 8kW Sunsynk Lynks Inverters

Battery Storage:
  • Sunsynk X-Battery 10kWh modules, installed in parallel at high-demand sites

System-Wide Advantages:

  • Seamless inverter–battery integration

  • Rapid commissioning, even for complex parallel setups

  • Real-time multi-site management through Sunsynk Connect

  • High energy efficiency and resilience under South African load shedding

  • Scalable designs tailored to each chapel’s essential-load requirements

With Sunsynk systems now powering every site, the organisation has dramatically reduced the impact of grid instability on its daily operations. Chapels can continue services uninterrupted, community programmes no longer need to pause during outages.

This project stands as a strong example of how Sunsynk’s advanced solar technology paired with skilled system design can deliver dependable, scalable and future-proof energy solutions for community-focused organisations across South Africa. As demand for resilient backup power continues to grow, Sunsynk’s proven performance in real-world, multi-site deployments offers long-term value where it matters most.

Ciao a tutti!

This was a fantastic breakdown of the Sunsynk case study, really clarifying a lot for me. I'd been following the developments but felt a bit fuzzy on the details, and you've managed to present everything in such a logical and easy-to-digest manner. It’s genuinely helpful, and I feel much more confident about the Sunsynk case after reading your insights https://www.afr.com/ It's interesting how often this particular scenario is coming up in conversations lately; I've even found myself sharing overviews like this with friends, and they always appreciate the clarity. I'm particularly curious to see more data that could back up some of the specific claims made in the Sunsynk case study. That would really solidify the impact, I think. Overall,…

What stands out is how infrastructure gaps shift responsibility onto local actors to self-stabilize essential services. When solutions begin to resemble Royal Reels it raises questions about whether resilience is being decentralized by necessity, and how sustainable that is without broader systemic improvements
