8kVa Inverter + GEN input

Hi

I have a 8kVa inverter and a 2.2kVa Honda Inverter generator.

With the chronic loadshedding in south Africa I would like to use the generator to supplement the charging of the batteries on cloudy days when the panels couldn't charge the batteries to full capacity.

Can anyone give me the required config step by step to achieve this? I know it's possible as I do know of someone who does exactly this using their 5kVa inverter.

Thanks for the assistance in advance.

I have an identical scenario. Honda 2.2KVA generator and 8KW Sunsynk Inverter.

I am not sure how to set it up to "supplement" the charging of the batteries. I have set it up to prepare for extended periods of no grid, or if my batteries run out and there is no sign of grid coming back soon.(municipal failure or blackout)

My installation uses the aux port in for the generator and I also employ the "shaving" option (to limit the max pull from the generator) on the aux load screen.

I set shaving to 1400W because I can manage my load to around 400W so that leave 1KW to charge the batteries. Slow charge but it works and doesn't max the generator.

Something to consider when choosing between feeding the generator into either the "mains in" or "aux port" is that my installer said the inverter is a lot more forgiving (voltage and frequency wise) to the input on AUX than the input on GRID. The inverter just fails to recognize some generators when connected to grid in. I have not verified this, I am just mentioning it here.

Not the exact thing you wanted but I hope it helps.
