Strange Battery/BMS behaviour and low charge/discharge

Sunsynk 8kW 3phase inverter, 4 Sunsync 5.3L batteries on bus bars, usual chain of BMS cables. Wiring as per the Sunsynk diagram but with a bigger fuse as its 8kW not 5kW

The sunsynk is set up with 140A charge rate limits. The BMS however despite there being four batteries on the bus bars is reporting around a 58-66A charge rate limit and 100A discharge max as if there was a single battery not four in parallel. It correctly reports all four batteries as being present, and each has sensible looking data on the LCD display if you page through them.

It's in a basement so the temperature ranges vary between about 12 and 20C so no extremes.

When charging it will charge to 98% and then it doesn't matter how long you leave it just sticks at 98%.

Any idea how to kick it out of whatever confusion it has gotten into ? Power cycling the inverter doesn't change it, knocking all the batteries off and on with the buttons doesn't change it.

Took some time to figure out owing to what appears to have been a screwup the Sunsynk end

  • Updated the firmware, but they only did the inverter it seems, then refused to talk to me only the installer (who probably knows less about Sunsynk kit than I do)

  • Installer got them to update the 5.3L battery firmware and lo and behold it now all works and is reporting the correct charge and discharge rates.
