I have a cheaper night rate. Can I exceed the recommended 80% maximum charge. Low cost electricity during the day using battery for load.

You can go all the way from 0% to 100%, but it does accelerate battery degradation, however going all the way to 100% is generally OK (most batteries are rated for 6000 cycles from 10% to 100% - which at 1 cycle per day is 16 years)
