Setting up my Sunsynk 5kW ECCO inverter

Thanks for the help given to me when deciding whether to buy this inverter. I did buy one, alas the first one had a failed LCD panel on delivery, but Sunsynk quickly replaced it and the replacement is now installed into my solar system (16x420W panels, 3x PylonTech US5000 LiPo batteries). The inverter works with solar electricity and has fed over 4kW into my house when the oven and tumble drier were on.

I'm now trying to finish off the settings in the inverter. I've been watching lots of youtube videos, the ones by Keith are helpful, but it would be great to have a detailed setting-up manual that covers all the parameters that can be set and advice on troubleshooting. I'd really appreciate help on a couple of topics.

  1. I can't get comms to work properly with my batteries. The inverter shows the screen of numbers when I press "setting / LI BMS". Keith says this is an indication of no comms, it should show lines of text with numbers after each piece of text, but the resolution on the video isn't good enough to read them. I've tried reversing the cable and different sockets, to no avail. I think the correct ones are "A/CAN" socket on the master battery (middle one in 2 rows of 3 sockets) with the end of the cable labelled "PYLON" into it, going to "BMS 485/CAN" in the inverter (to top left of 4 sockets). This lead came with the batteries. Does this look right? To test continuity between pins, I placed both plugs with the copper backs of the pins upwards, and found these connections: PYLON end pin7 to the other end pin 5, and PYLON pin 8 to the other end pin 3 (counting from left to right with the cables towards me). Is that correct for this inverter?

  2. I can't get the system to limit my export to the grid. I am using the CT coil on my incoming live to the house. At the moment I'm getting 1900W of PV, 400W is going to the house and 1500W is going to the grid. The inverter shows CT=-1500W, LD=-1900W. I've set in SYSTEM 2 max export power = 2000W, but this seems to limit the inverter's output, not the export to the grid. To demonstrate this, if I put the oven on, these readings change to 1900W of PV, 2500W to the house, 600W import from the grid. If I increase the limit to 3000W and switch the oven off, I get 2700W PV, 400W to the house, and 2300W exporting to the grid. With the oven on and the limit set to 1000W, I get 900W PV, 2600W to the house, and 1700W import form the grid. So the limit setting is limiting the output of the inverter. Despite there being at least 2700W of PV, setting the limit to 1000W limits the inverter to that, not the export to the grid to that. What I need is to be able to limit the export to the grid to a certain value (I know I will be limited to 3600W) whilst allowing as much PV to be generated to meet the needs of the house. Please can you see what's wrong with my understanding of this setup?

Thanks,

Stuart

It has taken a while for this post to appear. In the meantime, I've been watcing youtube videos (Keith ? mainly) and found some online help documents on a sunsynk website, such as https://sunsynk.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/103000121418-how-to-set-timers-to-charge-from-the-grid-using-the-system-mode-timers Why oh why don't Sunsynk point us to these if they can't produce a full user setup manual?? These are a useful set and they corrected several wrong guesses I'd made about the meaning of some tickboxes in the inverter's settings. As a result, my inverter is now working correctly in this respect.

Thanks,

Stuart
