5KW Sunsynk with 1 X Pylontech 3.5KW battery

I have recently installed a 5kw sunsynk inverter with 4 X 415 panels. It is still our winter months in KZN South africa and i get up to 1200W from the panels during the peak of the day. And it can generate up to 6.5KW on a good day right now. I have created an essential circuit that will not go over 5KW. The inverter happily blends grid with PV when the load on the circuit is higher than what PV is producing. When the load is low, PV finds its way to the non-essential circuit to supplement there. (According to my settings). No battery attached yet.

I am now in the process of buying ONE Pylontech 3.5KW 48V battery.

  1. I would like to know what are the battery settings for the inverter when i attach the battery. I understand that charge and discharge current should be set at 0.5C which translates to about 37A or less for this battery. I also understand that the BMS takes care of a lot. WHAT other settings and range of values should i be implementing on the inverter with regard to battery settings??

  2. I am also curious as to how the inverter manages the battery. Obviously the battery will be utilised when there is no grid (PV/Battery blend ) OR no grid and PV. Will the battery ever be used at night to supplement the grid or are there settings for this scenario??? Will be good to store some PV charge by day and utilise that in the night to make further savings on the electrical bill.

N.B. I am going to buy another 3.5KW battery in the near future.

Just some feedback. According to the installer and electrician, i did not need an earth bond relay. Not sure if i am missing something more technical here.

In the interim, will it be fine if i connect the earth cable from the batteries to the earth cable on the Sunsynk chassis?

I do plan to eventually put an earth spike in the ground outside and connect the batteries to that.
