Can power surge after load shedding damage my inverter?

I'm sure that my 8kW inverter has built in protection against damage from the power surge experienced when Eskom restores power after prolonged load shedding. My question is whether this protection is infallible? Has anybody had their inverter damaged by post load shedding power surges?

I think if I were in this situation I would look at externally delaying the grid return. There are units for A/Cs and fridges which "hold off" returnng the supply when it comes back on. Use one of those devices to switch a big contactor so you can delay the grid return by say three minutes. I think each false start will cause the timer to start again so the supply would need to be good for three minutes before the contactor reconnects your inverter.
