Improvement of the ROI calculation?

Hi,

I have a question and suggestion maybe for @Joel Egan regarding the return on investment calculation in the App.

Is it calculated simply based on the PV generation multiplied by the unit price configured in the account settings?

If so, wouldn't it be better(a feature request I guess) to adjust the formula to take into account the earnings from a potential export as well?

I am thinking something along the lines of:

ROI = (PV Generated - Exported) * Buy_unit_price + Exported * Sell_unit_price.

Then you can compare that to the investment value and calculate the percentage.

If there is no export the result will be the same as it is now and if there is export it will take that into account in the ROI calculation. Obviously, that would require also the user to input their unit export/sell price as well as this is usually different from the buy price. At least in the UK it is.

I would like to hear your opinions on this. Thanks! Kalin

I agree more or less with all the replies here. If you want to get deep into details you could get very complicated calculations so from that perspective it could be removed.. However, my idea is to keep it simple and user-friendly if it stays. Most of the top level of the app aims to be user-friendly, so that users who have no idea about all the details can at a glance know how much they have saved and how this compares to their investment. Everyone knows it is not exact and does not include all the possible components that can go into the ROI calculations. If the ROI includes at least the two basic metrics I mentioned, that will give a decent broad idea of the general non-professional user where they are in terms of returns on their investment. That is my opinion at least.
