How to prolong battery life more than 50% over a night?
Hi i have installed an 8kw (IP HYB) invertor - with 3 x 5kw batteries.
We have not been supplied municipal elec for 8 days, so the system is being tested.
Question
- every night the % fill on the batteries is around 85%
- every morning it is below 40%
- meaning my battery looses half (50%) of its charge over night
- as we know what it is like to have the inverter beeping & have nil elec in the house, we are extremely careful at night - no tea or coffee/no major appliances used - only a few lights/TV/Whi-fi/fridges/deepfreeze.
- so we have 15kw of power - 3 x 5kw batteries - but we are consuming 7.5kw (50%) of our capacity over a night??
Is there anything we can do to prolong battery life?

Use the sun to charge to full 100% capacity. If you’re in SA (you must be with that kinda service delivery) there has been more than enough sun to achieve this. (I assume you have swapped all globes to l e d already. )You should not be be having this issue. I also have 3 batteries. They are fully charged by the sun by 5pm off 12 panels. Make sure your geyser and pool motor are off by 3pm at the latest, and use smart timers to get them to run consecutively so you don’t deplete your batteries totally during the day. If you carefully monitor all this you can go completely off grid on all but seriously cloudy days.
