Simple diesel gen does not sync - dc solution ?

Have just installed Sunsynk 5 kW to keep batteries charged through multiple loadsheddings per day.

No solar panels yet, was wanting to use our simple mechanically governed manual start diesel generator to assist with charging when the grid is off. But the frequency stability of the generator is too poor, hunts by 2 or 3 Hz as loads come and go and the Sunsynk cannot lock onto it.

So I was wondering ... take the AC output from the generator through a fullwave rectifier plus LC filter and feed it as a rippling DC into the unused solar DC input of the Sunsynk ?

Has anybody tried this ? Would it be safe for the Sunsynk ?
