5kW ECCO getting hot during grid charge

Hi,

Just commissioned a 5kW ECCO + 3 Pylontech US5000. I don't have any solar, this is purely a "buy cheap off peak power and use it during the day" project.

I checked on the inverter during it's first charge period last night. It had been charging at 80A for around 2 hours. The heatsink was almost too hot to touch, and the rest of the chassis, touch screen and buttons were all very warm, way above body temperature.

I could hear what sounded like a small fan running, I guess internally as I can't see an external fan and there was no air blowing out anywhere.

Is it normal for these inverters to get so hot whilst charging from grid? 4kW was going into my batteries but the inverter was consuming 4.25kW, so in my simple head that's 250W of heat, which feels about right to get that metal to that temperature. I guess the heatsink being way hotter than the chassis means it's workng :).

Would stress it less by charging at a lower current for a longer period or a higher current for a shorter period (in other words does the 250W loss increase with power or not)?

You can read the actual temperature on the App under Equipment - Device temperature.

Ours peak into the 70's
