Powering the house from batteries during a power cut

I have an 8kW hybrid inverter and 3 5kW batteries and I would like to make use of the battery power during a power cut. I know that power is available on the load port but that is not really practical without changing a lot of wiring and I imagine this would be true for a lot of people who are just embarking on the solar power road. As I understand it the inverter will stop operating normally when grid power goes off so I am wondering if a low power generator connected to the system would allow it to carry on working and use the battery power. Obviously you would have to stop it exporting anything during the power cut. I have a mains changeover switch and a separate earth which was used previously with a large generator. My question is if I connected a low power generator and switched over would the inverter then supply battery power?

At your DB board, add another earth leakage. Connect all circuits you want to function when power goes off to it. That normally excludes stove geyser and other high high electricity consumeables. Install the wires from load to this circuit. Yes it has a bit of work, but when power goes out you will have a seamless switch over. you will save a huge amount in your electricity bill as well. Your installer should have done it
