No PV: UPS no loadshedding

Can anyone please advise me on the most suitable system mode for pure UPS operation. I have an 8kw plus 2x5 kw batteries and no PV. The system mode is unticked, so the battery SOC is always 100% because there has been no loadshedding for two months.

Yesterday we had a short power failure and I noticed that the system spent several hours charging the battery, even though SOC was 100% just before the power outage. I presume it was balancing the batteries.

I am now thinking that I should perhaps set the mode so that it is forced to use battery for at least one slot. Any thoughts please?

I assume you are suggesting that you will tick "Use Timer" and the Grid check boxes setting the value 100% except for one period. That will not work as you think.

If you set the one period set to 80%, you will have to leave the "Grid" checkbox unticked. This will allow the battery to discharge to 80% an then the other period will then charge the battery to 100%. This will exercise the battery, but this is not required for Lithium batteries

I think that you set all the periods to 100% with the Grid checkboxes ticked. The down side is that the batteries will charge any time during the day when they have dropped below 100%.

If you want a pure UPS function, then you original configuration was correct, "Use Timer" is unticked. If it is not ticked, the batteries WILL ONLY be used for backup when there is no

utility grid power. However you must ensure you have set the correct battery-charging settings on the battery charge as shown in Section ‘Battery Setup’ Home Page
