2 x 5kW Parallel, PV on only one inverter

Good evening all,

Would it be possible to connect 2 x 5kW inverters in parallel and connect the PV string to only one of the inverters? PV = 4.905kWp. The array consist of 9 x 545W panels, so you can only split them 4/5. Was wondering if it will make any difference if you only connect to one of the parallel inverters?

Hi I have 2x5kw inverters in parallel. As I completed my install I added panel strings one at a time, so in the early stages I only had one mppt connected and it worked fine. The only problem I came across is the master had to have the single array string connected. I couldn’t get the single string to work on the slave. You will need a minimum of 150vdc to get the mppt to work. My smallest panel string is 5 panels as the voc is 36vdc (36v X 5 = 180vdv), I think the max voltage for the mppt is about 450 but you will need to check you data sheet. Be mindful about panel shading if any panels fall in the shade it will affect production massively 👍
