Modscan32 connecting to 5kw inverter

I'm trying to connect to the inverter via rs485 connection to my laptop.

Pin 1 goes to A and Pin 2 goes to B.

The converter is Haljai USB to RS485 converter below.

I've gone into advanced settings on the inverter and changed the modbus ID to 1 from 0 and ticked the slave. I've tried every speed and still failing with connection timeout. I reversed the cables, thinking this might be the issue and received a message saying response unreadable, or something like that.

What am I doing wrong? Is it because I've no ground on the converter?

jacekowski can I pick your brains more? Deye told me the load power is 178 and PV power is 186 & 187. Looking at the results doesn't add up to what they said.
