Wind Power with Sunsynk Inverters: Kestrel Wind Turbines

Solar isn't the only renewable energy source that can work with a Sunsynk system. Wind generation can also be integrated with compatible Sunsynk inverters, giving suitable sites another way to generate and manage renewable energy.

Keith from Sunsynk visited Kestrel Renewable Energy in South Africa to see how its wind turbines are manufactured and learn more about the technology developed to bring Kestrel wind power and Sunsynk together.

Kestrel has been manufacturing wind turbines for 14 years, building up extensive experience in small-scale wind generation. As they looked at ways to simplify the integration of wind power into energy systems, Kestrel identified an opportunity with Sunsynk. According to them, Sunsynk helped fill a gap in the market by bringing the inverter, charging functionality and MPPT technology together within one system.

We provided Kestrel with an inverter for testing, giving its engineers the opportunity to develop a wind turbine solution that could connect directly with a compatible Sunsynk inverter. The result removes the need for a separate specialist wind controller, creating a more straightforward way to incorporate wind generation into a Sunsynk energy system.

Wind and solar can also complement one another as renewable energy sources. Solar generation relies on daylight and suitable weather conditions, while a wind turbine can generate whenever there is sufficient wind. For sites where the conditions are right, incorporating both technologies can provide additional opportunities to generate renewable electricity at different times. As with any wind energy installation, the location and local wind conditions are important, and the complete system needs to be designed around compatible equipment and the requirements of the site.
