A hybrid solar inverter converts DC power from solar panels into AC power for household use, while simultaneously managing a connected battery. Unlike a standard string inverter, a hybrid model can charge the battery from solar or the grid, discharge it to power your home, and export excess energy - all automatically. This gives you energy independence, grid backup and maximum bill savings in a single device.

For most UK homes, a 3.6kW to 5kW single-phase inverter is sufficient. As a general rule, choose an inverter rated at 80-100% of your intended solar array size. A 4kW roof array suits a 5kW inverter; a 6kW array suits an 8kW inverter. Three-phase inverters are for homes or businesses with a three-phase supply. Always have an MCS-accredited installer size the system for your specific consumption profile.

Many models also support third-party batteries via CAN bus or RS485 - check the specific inverter datasheet for confirmed compatibility. Yes. Sunsynk inverters carry G98 and G99 certifications for UK grid connection and are registered on the MCS Product Eligibility List, making systems eligible for Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariffs. G98 covers systems up to 16A per phase; G99 applies to larger export-limited installations. Your installer handles the relevant DNO notification as part of the installation process.

In many cases, yes. A Sunsynk hybrid inverter can be added alongside an existing string inverter using AC coupling, or the existing inverter can be replaced entirely. DC coupling is generally more efficient and preferred for new installs. An MCS installer will assess your existing array voltage, string configuration and switchgear before recommending the right approach.
